Should We Are Witnessing the Downfall of the Cult of Attacking Play, Let’s Appreciate What It Created.

The Evolution of a Movement tends to be marked by specific steps.

1. The Big Idea

A dominant personality or figureheads present a new and transcendent idea that promises a cure for struggling players.

And so it goes. They’re getting ready to storm the compound down in Brisbane. The gunships are circling. Signs of trouble appear from the out-houses. A lone figure, naked, anxious, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT written on his body as a symbol, has emerged from the field and is taken aside with discretion towards an inconclusive loan stint elsewhere.

Do you ever miss the beginning, when the world was still young? The era of early Bazball, of Bazball without brains.

2. Initial Adoration

Team architects offer a fresh beginning, optimism ahead, camaraderie, salvation among a group who all believe in the method.

What was this thing at first? A team united enjoying success. Ink. Muscles. Determination. Elite male wellness energy. Admittedly, The squad insist they don’t use the label, which is funny since it’s not recognized, what was that spectacle?

However, everyone understands its essence. It’s the batsman attempting a move so depraved it defies description. It’s the excitement of the captain at his peak, an expression conveying: focused titan, rugged appearance, hair woven from beaver hide, truly contemporary you almost imagine to glance over and notice he’s fielding on the ground bare-chested and cradling a wild salmon.

It’s the batsman continuing to have permission to talk in press conferences, out there looking like a joyful figure formally attired, saying stuff like we’re breaking down traditions. Indeed, the vibe, for quite a long time, was uplifting.

3. The Growth Phase

Building period. Cohesion maintained through repetition of key phrases. These principles can appear contradictory to prove commitment.

Is it just me? The reaction, the anger, the sense of betrayal following the initial loss seems too strong, overdone. The batting collapsed on the field, as history shows. They were torn apart defensively for a couple of hours when tactics failed, manipulated by the opponent playing aggressively but smarter, responsive to the situation, an athlete shining with aura.

Now there is the criticism, the rage, the perception of the team as a kind of abomination. The consensus is that losing isn’t enough, they need to lose righteously, to be purged, destroyed, defeated by the vengeful purity of the bowler’s action, the conventional tactics of the bowler, seen enjoying achievements humbly as if receiving a pleasant gift. What impact will this have?

4. Hate Bonding

Problems arise because of mistakes. But the cult cannot admit errors. It begins to thrive on anger towards critics.

Ultimately, half a week out from the second Test, we’ve entered a critical juncture in the journey of this approach. They might succeed overseas through aggressive play. More likely, defeat could come swiftly. In case of defeat it appears we could be witnessing the final stage.

Before that happens, several aspects to note on the topic. Previously, at the start, of passion and hope, I wrote an article labeling it a movement. Criticism followed, which proved the point since it’s clear how to confirm something definitely isn’t a cult is if supporters send hundreds of furiously one-eyed messages denying scrutiny of the beliefs.

Recent events in the last few days are fascinating. Criticism of the approach is now the trend. We have a uniformly angry internet, critical analysts, shots of angry middle-aged travelling fans missing out on play, reminiscent of timeshare owners seeking justice.

On the other hand, there is the broader context of the opponent’s mixed more culturally hard-wired exasperation towards the unconventional visitors, out there saying, hey, that thing you love and have fostered and nurtured as one way of separating yourself from the opposition, it’s just a joke in the end old boy.

This is the core issue. It’s all cults. The approach was a phenomenon because cricket is a cult. Or at least, the team has long been exclusive, a circle, a garden party, a restricted environment with centuries of opaque and ritualistic cult history supporting it. This has always been where entry is limited. It’s the British pastime of the British, the early image-makers. And notably, the nation has its own culture, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a monarchy still exists.

The team have been isolated in this environment from a young age. Seeking change, to create a less brutal environment, they are just repeating their upbringing, forming a new circle, a limited community, but now with a new team and a coach encouraging individuality as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.

Live where your feet are. Embrace challenges. However much you change, things stay similar.

Considering this, now is the time to show understanding for the movement, to appreciate its good points, which are significant. How to define it? Creating a sense of freedom. Questioning traditions. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
